Good bye UIQ3, Hello Windows Mobile.

I have switched my provider from M1 to Singtel due to certain job reasons. I have requested the number portability to retain my previous number, so I have requested Singtel to arrange to be activate my new SIM card once my M1 contract has expired. It’s like 4-5 days more when I signed up, so they agreed to this arrangement.

While I’m waiting for my Singtel SIM to be activated with Broadband on Mobile, I’m using ActiveSync or Wi-Fi connectivity for Internet access on my HTC Touch Pro. I have configured Microsoft Exchange but that requires my Touch Pro to be configured with phone lock with a timeout of 15mins !

So practically every time, I have to unlock my phone as the bloody timeout is too short ! Oh well, it’s always security over usability.

I have added 2 more new pages to my blog, namely HTC Touch Pro Tips and Applications. They are gathered from sources like PPC SG and HWZ.

The iphonelock.ini has more room for tweaking especially the brightness level which can be very battery draining.

Old “bugs” that I encountered like not locking after a phone call is gone.

There are visual icons for missed calls and unread SMS on the locked screen.

For P1, now the camera button is disabled when it’s locked.

Well, seeing is believing, download the latest 0.50 version from the forum. Remember to sign it with www.symbiansigned.com

Now here comes the newest beta of the iPhone iLock by Kwull. It’s a UIQ3 app and it’s fast, upon unlocking, it stays in the background with minimal memory resources.

I’m using the version 0.41, well there are some bugs like backlight at very low levels, keypad not lighting up, camera button is not locked, just to name a few.

It’s even customizable like the graphics which can be found in a mbm file in d:\shared\iphonelock\skin.mbm and an iphonelock.ini for behaviours.

Overall, it’s a good add-on for UIQ phones. Highly recommended

Warning – this version has a major change and needs plenty of testing. If you don’t want to risk potentially large bugs and problems it might be best to wait a few days to see what comes up!
Either way it’s a good idea to keep v0.13 installs handy and back up your design before installing v0.14!
Note – this version introduces a slight change to the plug-in interface code so you’ll need to install new versions of plug-ins!

As you can see, more Control Panel shortcuts are available, in my GDesk design, I created large icons for common used functions for quick finger access and smaller icons for stylus tapping.

“mShell is a complete, unlimited m implementation with comprehensive function library. m scripts and own modules can be run, developed, and communicated.

In addition, it contains the applications mSupervisor (m script autostart, SMS control of mShell) and mViewer (m file type recognition).

“GDesk is a free, customizable and extendable desktop system. With GDesk, icons can be placed on the desktop representing applications, page links and plug-ins; these can then be launched by tapping them. Plug-ins can be added at any time and as required; further plug-in functionality will be provided over time.

Once you load GDesk, it will take over your standby screen, you start off with an empty screen and start adding shortcuts to your applications.

You get to move those shortcuts around around the screen and set an image for the background.

Some downside to it, you will lose some functionality like not able to key lock by holding the \”Back\” button, dialing a number won’t work as you can’t enter numbers in the GDesk main screen.
